BCCR, which stands for Brothers for Christ Community Response, is a transformative organization that was established in 2003 by three dedicated individuals: Rev. Steven L. Davis, Sr., Minister Cornelius D. Studifin, and Lillian K. Davis. The inspiration for BCCR sprouted from a profound moment of reflection and prayer that Rev. Davis experienced while incarcerated in Ohio in 1997. During that difficult time, he found himself grappling with the shadows of addiction and the despair of contemplating suicide while seated on the cold, hard floor of a county jail. It was amidst this turmoil that he recognized an urgent desire for profound change in his life. Turning to God in prayer, he sought release and renewal, drawing inspiration from Proverbs 22:6, which emphasizes the importance of guiding individuals in their formative years so they can follow a righteous path into adulthood.
BCCR is built upon five foundational pillars that emerged from extensive interviews with over 1,100 incarcerated men, who shared their insights on what they deemed essential for a successful reintegration into society. These five pillars are: 1. Faith in Christ Jesus, 2. Substance Abuse Recovery and Prevention, 3. Development of Marketable Job Skills, 4. Strengthening Family Connections, and 5. Pursuit of Education. While these pillars hold equal significance, they resonated strongly in the voices of those interviewed, reflecting their collective needs and aspirations. Although BCCR holds a Christ-centered approach, its doors are open to anyone seeking assistance, dependent on available funding.
Incorporated in Virginia in 2003, BCCR has diligently pursued its mission to provide support and guidance to those who find themselves in challenging circumstances. The organization aims to serve as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path toward recovery and demonstrating the possibility of overcoming life-controlling issues.
For the past seven years, BCCR has successfully operated The Gray House, a men’s sober living home dedicated to fostering recovery and stability. Having housed over 200 residents, BCCR takes pride in its impressive 72% success rate for residents who transition successfully after a year, maintaining contact and support throughout their journeys. Additionally, the organization has celebrated 30 salvations and 65 rededications through its work, collaborating with several local churches to provide discipleship and spiritual growth opportunities for the residents. Through these efforts, BCCR continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those seeking redemption and a fresh start.
BCCR is excited to announce the opening of a second sober living house in Bristol, TN, known as the Lucas House, or Gray House II. This welcoming residence is named in honor of a former supporter of our ministry who played a significant role in our mission. The Lucas House is designed to accommodate up to eight residents, providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals on their journey to recovery. With its self-sustaining operations, the Lucas House not only fosters independence among its residents but also contributes to the overall goal of sustained sobriety and community reintegration.
